Handbags emphasize fair trade
2010-7-28 『close

It's not often that one can purchase a handbag with a personalized signature on it, but Eco-Chick.com reports that Della Bags are pushing to change this by importing products directly from artists in Hohoe, Ghana to shoppers in the United States.

These beautiful, summery bags are part of a fair trade project undertaken by the Los Angeles-based company in order to provide the African community with jobs and education, while also promoting awareness in the West, according to the Della website.

Not only do these products enable these workers to become financially-independent, they are also pieces of eco-friendly apparel - the textiles are completely local, vegan and sustainable.

Eco-Chick.com claims that these accessories are as affordable as they are exotic.

The company's website states that Della was founded by the LA-based designer, Tina Tangalakis, a woman who was inspired by her visit to Ghana as a volunteer and teacher at Happy Kids Orphanage.

Tangalakis befriended a local seamstress named Beatrice Agabe, and the two women shared their passions for fashion, brainstorming with scraps of fabric and pencil designs until Della came to fruition. The handbags are their premier product.
